Peter Laviolette Teams Coached: Born on December 7, 1964, Peter Laviolette, officially known as Peter Philip Laviolette Jr. is an American professional ice hockey coach and former player.
He developed a passion for ice hockey at a younger age and was consistent throughout his career rising through the ranks to become one of the most sought-after ice hockey players.
As a player, Laviolette spent the majority of his ten-year career playing for various minor league teams. He played 12 games in the NHL for the New York Rangers and played for the United States in the Olympics twice.
At the time of this writing (Wednesday, June 14, 2023), he’s the current head coach for the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Laviolette began his coaching career as head coach of the ECHL Wheeling Nailers and has since then had a stint with a number of teams.
Laviolette has coached teams including; New York Islanders, Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers, Nashville Predators, and Washington Capitals.
He led the Hurricanes to a Stanley Cup win in 2006, and later coached the Flyers to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2010, and the Predators in 2017.
The above-mentioned wins make Laviolette the fourth coach in National Hockey League history to lead three teams to the Stanley Cup Finals.
In September 2020, he became head coach of the Washington Capitals and in April 2023, they mutually parted ways after the team missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2013–14 season.
In June 2023, the ex-Capitals head coach hit major headlines when on Tuesday, June 13 he joined the New York Rangers as their head coach.
The New York Rangers hired Peter Laviolette as their next coach, bringing in a seasoned veteran with Stanley Cup-winning experience to replace Gerard Gallant.
